Spectral Blue™
Touch-free blue light disinfection, without UV light or chemicals, without risks or side effects
Sustainable disinfection technology
Breakthroughs in LED technology have enabled the development of highly efficient disinfection devices that use visible antimicrobial blue light (aBL) to safely disinfect surfaces, rooms and air in a controlled manner, without side effects or risks to staff or patients.
Spectral Blue™
Spectral Blue™ has developed a contactless, UV-free and chemical-free disinfection technology that is patented and whose effectiveness has been proven by its own and more than 2,000 public studies.

Technology
MWHI (Multi-Wavelength, High-Intensity) blue light is a patented technology that combines multiple high-intensity antimicrobial blue light wavelengths between 405 nm and 470 nm, destroying microbes with high efficiency.
The MWHI technology was developed by LED Tailor, a Finnish life science company. The technology is patented and is used exclusively in Spectral Blue™ devices.
The UV-free, LED-based MWHI technology kills all bacteria, yeasts and molds and is completely safe for humans, animals, plants and materials. It was developed for continuous room disinfection, penetrates liquids and water and is effective against biofilms and multi-resistant strains.

UV radiation and blue light disinfection – what are their differences?
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is well-known for its antimicrobial properties. It is a well-established solution for disinfection of surfaces, air and water, and has been in use for decades. The UV part of the electromagnetic spectrum of light comprises wavelengths in the 100 to 400 nanometer range. The most efficient wavelengths used for disinfection purposes are within the UVC band, at around 254-265 nanometers. The term UVC disinfection typically refers to UVC radiation at this narrow range.
Antimicrobial blue light (aBL) means certain wavelengths of visible light inside the blue band, within 405-470 nanometer range. While the antimicrobic properties of visible blue light have been known for decades, blue light disinfection has only become practical and economically viable relatively recently through innovation and rapid advancements in LED technology. LED Tailor's Spectral Blue technology is based on multi-wavelength visible blue light.

Continuous disinfection
is a game-changer for cleanrooms, laboratories, and healthcare facilities.
Continuous disinfection: Spectral Blue keeps facilities hygienically clean throughout the day
Spectral Blue disinfection devices emit multi-wavelength blue light (not UV!) that disinfects the room air and surfaces automatically and consistently.
Unlike hazardous chemicals and dangerous UVC radiation, the blue light is completely safe for people and materials. This means that you can use Spectral Blue for automated continuous disinfection, where it performs several consecutive short or long disinfection cycles during the day and night.
Spectral Blue eliminates microbes continuously
throughout the day, keeps the bacterial count low around the clock and prevents recontamination.
Continuous disinfection improves processes
A continuous disinfection deployment uses a motion sensor or a timer to switch the devices on and off during the day, to disinfect whenever the room is unoccupied. This works superbly in critical areas such as cleanroom cut-off rooms and airlocks.
Deploying continuous disinfection will first gradually bring your microbe levels down, and then keep them down 24/7. This minimizes your facility's contamination risk and allows you to reduce the use of chemicals.
Compared to traditional disinfection, Spectral Blue turns the contamination curve upside down: With chemical disinfection you can kill microbes quickly, but the effect does not last. Recontamination starts as soon as people start using the room again.
Safe to use without risk
Blue light is absolutely harmless to humans and animals and is gentle on materials such as plastics
Safe operation without risks
Spectral Blue is 100% safe for humans and animals and is gentle on materials such as plastics. It has no risks or side effects and no plastic particles can detach and contaminate the indoor air. The sustainable disinfection method with MWHI blue light damages microbes indirectly by activating light-absorbing compounds that only occur in microbial cells. Human, animal or plant cells do not contain these compounds, so blue light cannot damage their cells or DNA.
The photobiological eye safety of Spectral Blue devices was tested in accordance with IEC 62471:2006 and IEC TR 62778:2014 (Blue Light Hazard Test). Spectral Blue devices are classified as RG1 (low risk group, RG1 unlimited) or RG2 (moderate risk, at very short distances).
RG1 means that under normal use there is no risk to the eyes of employees, patients or animals and no safety measures or instructions are required. However, as with any LED light source, the bright devices should not be viewed directly.
RG2 for the more powerful devices means that you should not look at a device for more than 42 seconds if you are less than 30 centimeters away.
